Pittsfield, WI (May 16, 2024) – Nsight Telservices has started construction on a $5.3 million expansion project to deliver fiber-to-the-premise to every address in the Town of Pittsfield, in northwest Brown County. Fiber internet will offer residents and businesses speeds starting at 300/Mbps up to a gigabit.
“Nsight Telservices has served the Pittsfield community for more than a century as the town has grown and technology has evolved. We’re proud to continue that commitment as we invest to bring fiber to the community, ultimately benefitting our neighbors for years to come,” said Brighid Riordan, CEO of Nsight.
Fiber internet offers faster speeds, more bandwidth and improved reliability. Because the technology is scalable to deliver faster speeds as internet use-cases evolve, it’s considered future-proof. The increased bandwidth can support more devices at one time, including multiple devices streaming or video conferencing simultaneously. Reliability keeps smart-home devices like security cameras, thermostats and more running around the clock. Nsight Telservices new service offering will also provide equal upload and download capabilities. These symmetrical speeds are a major benefit for large uploads, gaming, video calls or any live-streaming feeds.
While Nsight is delivering 92% of the investment at $4.9 million, additional funds come from the Town of Pittsfield in choosing to use federal grant funds from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and a broadband grant awarded by the State of Wisconsin. At $275,000 and $123,628 respectively, these funds will cover close to 8% of the project.
“Public-private partnerships are important to building out broadband in rural areas. We appreciate our relationship with the Town of Pittsfield and having been working toward this goal for a long time,” said Riordan. “Elected leaders were specific in wanting this project to benefit every home and business in the town, rather than just a few.”
The project overlaps Nsight Telservices existing internet network and will add to the company’s growing fiber footprint. Nsight began adding fiber-to-the-home in the adjacent Pulaski community starting in 2005 and completed an overbuild of its copper network throughout the Village proper in 2022. The company also provides fiber services in Hobart as well as Luxemburg and Casco.
“The overbuild of our network in Pittsfield demonstrates how much we care about getting the best services to rural Wisconsin,” said Riordan. “We don’t necessarily take the easy route. We take the route that best serves our customers, and we get it done right.”
Construction will continue throughout 2024 and 2025. Residents can visit nsighttel.com/fiberbuilds for additional details and to sign up for service.
This project is being supported, in part, through $123,628 of funds from the State of Wisconsin, acting by and through the Public Service of Wisconsin.
